![]() ![]() When joining a new community it can be hard to know what is expected and how to do the right thing. There are a lot of new ideas, people, traditions and expectations to learn about, while also fitting study into your life. Sure there could be improvements, like flexible selection of word count information, but it's a huge timesaver and frees up access to student work.Starting university study is really exciting. Overall I'd recommend the Turnitin iPad app to anyone who's not used it before. And it's invaluable to have information on sources and potential plagiarism so easily to hand. The choice of feedback types might be limited at present and I'm hoping others might be introduced in due course, but everything works without issues. Marking is now easily shared between colleagues and amendment of lecturer feedback is tidy, flexible and convenient. Submissions can be listed and sorted by various criteria, and a library of preauthored comments speeds the marking process significantly. In terms of the app and its functionality, I've been impressed. Portability and convenience are a huge plus compared to deskbound marking, simplified availability of submissions and commentary enables speed of access and consistency of material.īut that's looking at the physical changes Turnitin has made to marking. This is the first year I've used Turnitin - either as software or as an iPad app - and I've been impressed by how less onerous the process has become. Student assignment marking was always "dreaded" with boxes of paperwork and demands on lecturer handwritten notes. Makes marking portable (if not a pleasure) And these developers get paid for creating such a mess? In short: how much more useless could this app be? Turnitin on the web is better, just don't use Safari on your iPad! What a hot mess. Update: just changed my review to one star after discovering:ġ) The app doesn't even sync feedback text you enter in the text box via the web!Ģ) If you give up on the app and try to use the web version, you'll find you can't even type comments anywhere if you're using Safari on iPad! (3) As soon as I start editing the feedback text box, the window collapses into a small rectangle and I can see virtually none of my text as I edit it! Not good at all, sorry. (2) In the assignment, when you want to select/highlight a single word, it selects the entire line and you have to laboriously drag the highlight so it covers just the word you want. So if I put in a grade of, say, 55 for an assignment, that will not sync to Turnitin on the web and I get endless error messages, 'grade not synced'. For instance, bugs that are new or still not fixed: (1) grades do not sync. The developers have been sitting on their behinds for the last year and not improved the app at all. I previously reviewed this as a good app and a boon for academics, but over a year later I have changed my mind. ![]()
